What is SEO?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a process of improving the amount of traffic a Web site receives from search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.) by optimizing the written copy and HTML code of the site. Analysis of the site's target audience, content and keyword traffic is performed to determine what needs to be added or changed on the site.
The advantages of SEO.
A site that has been properly optimized has a better chance of appearing closer to the top of search engine result pages, increasing the amount of traffic visiting the site.
For example: A decorative painter working in New Jersey would want appear near the top of the search engine results page if someone searched for "decorative painter NJ". She may also sell a faux-marble technique DVD and would want to have a high ranking for "faux-marble DVD".
By optimizing her site she would have a much greater chance of ranking near the top when people search for these phrases.
